This year’s Concert for Brownsbank will take place on Saturday 19 September at The Corn Exchange Biggar. An outstanding programme has been organised - Students from Biggar High School will read Hugh Mac-Diarmid’s work as well as other Scottish poetry. Alan Riach and James Robertson will present pieces from their own work. Carolyn Scott and Andy Sim’s film of James Robertson, shot at the cottage, remembering his time as writer-in-residence at Brownsbank 1993-1995 will be shown.

MacDiarmid’s Brownsbank will present the work of artists Sandy Moffat and Ruth Nicol with visual realisations of the poetry of Professor Alan Riach in the gallery at the Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum. The show will contain the twin themes of Hugh MacDiarmid and the town of Biggar.
A number of outreach events during the course of the event will be held at the venue. These will include the artists meeting with students from Biggar High School Art and English Department, a talk by Alan Riach titled ‘MacDiarmid The Biggar Years’ ‘In Conversation with Sandy Moffat, Ruth Nicol and Alan Riach’ and Alan reading from ‘The Flyting’, the letters from the Scotsman newspaper from Hugh MacDiarmid and Hamish Henderson.
