Beyond the Headlines

We all know the headline acts are great for raising the profile of festivals such as ours. Sometimes, though, going 'off the beaten track' can reveal little nuggets:those unexpected gems that make you say "I'm glad I bought a ticket for that." Here's a selection we hope will do just that:

Moishe's Bagel have been touring the UK for many years, selling out at venues like the Sage and the Jazz Cafe. We thought we'd try to explain what they're all about but far better to let them do it themselves. In this short video they introduce themselves and their music.

For something completely different, Biggar Theatre Workshop present Hoots 'n Boots, a boot stompin' ride through classic country and western songs. Put on your stetson, pull on your boots, get on your horse (well, maybe not) and mosey along for hoots a-plenty, y'all.
Close to home, the very fine Eastfield and Harthill Flute Orchestra take to the stage for a wide and varied selection of music. A community enterprise, apart from playing events such as ours they perform in nursing homes and churches. Fully worthy of your support

The Tartan Pimpernel promises to be a fascinating story. This new play brings to life the exploits of the Revd. Dr Donald Caskie, one of Scotland's most valiant wartime figures. He is credited with saving the lives of thousands of Allied service personnel yet his best-selling autobiography published in the 1950s has escaped dramatic attention...until now.
The young - and the young-at-heart - will want to make a beeline for Nessie the Loch Ness Monster and Pips and Panda in Magicland showing at the Puppet Theatre.

For details of dates and tickets for all these events click on the links or come along to the Box Office in the Corn Exchange. This has been just a selection of the wide variety of events at this year's festival. Go to the What's On guide for a full list or pick up a programme from shops and venues around the town.
