Biggar Links

A Community Art Project Celebrating our Precious Links

This summer Biggar Little Festival is organising two special events for family and community which we hope will be fun for all to enjoy and share.

“Biggar Links”, a community art project based around a simple continuous line knot motif designed to celebrate the strength and support which has shone through the community in recent challenging times. The design is an ancient and historic one found in Scottish Celtic art dating back more than a thousand years. It can symbolise continuity, and history, linking past and future and unbreakable bonds. It is also quite easy to draw, based on an equilateral triangle and three semi circles.

It can be made in any material or on any scale and we are encouraging people to share their creativity both through photographs online, #biggarlinks, and by making and displaying as many Biggar Links pieces as possible in gardens or on windowsills for a community art trail throughout Biggar and the surrounding area in July during the run up to the Biggar Little Picnic event, but pieces can be made earlier.

Biggar Links can be made from anything. It could be the Biggar Links shape mowed in a lawn, a temporary arrangement of leaves or flower pots. It could be decorative icing on a cake. It could be drawing, painting, print or textile. It could be something made by a group or a class.

The real work of art in this project is the sharing of an idea which represents and celebrates the power of community links which we all enjoy. Biggar Little Festival wants to inspire people of all ages to join in this event harnessing whatever skills or interests they enjoy and want to share.

Biggar Little Festival would like to thank all the children from the Nursery, Primary and High School for all their hard work, and also all the shops that are getting involved.

Biggar Links Community Art Trail will take place in Biggar and the surrounding area from July 17th to July 31st , leading up to our other great community event being organised by Biggar Little Festival this summer, but photos and films can be shared anytime and we will feature them on our Facebook and Instagram pages. #Biggarlinks

Our outdoor music event, Picnic at Loaningdale will take place over the weekend of Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August.
